CHICAGO — White Sox rookie designated hitter Yermín Mercedes keeps on hitting the baseball and is doing so with authority.

Mercedes launched a three-run home run off Cleveland starter Zach Plesac during a six-run first inning Wednesday night at Guaranteed Rate Field, and he added a single up the middle in the second, leaving him 18-for-35 through his first two at-bats.

To go with his .514 average, Mercedes has a .564 on-base percentage and .857 slugging percentage. His first-inning blast, which gave him three homers for the season, had an exit velocity of 111.2 mph and traveled 431 feet, per Statcast.
