Right fielder Dexter Fowler was carted off due to a left knee contusion during the second inning of the Angels’ road game against the Blue Jays on Friday.
Fowler, who was acquired by the Angels from the Cardinals this past offseason, went into second base standing up and beat Bo Bichette’s throw to the bag. In the process, Fowler stepped and landed awkwardly on the bag. Fowler drew a walk in his only plate appearance before he left the game.
José Rojas came in as a pinch-runner to replace Fowler, and scored on Shohei Ohtani’s 3-run double. Fowler came into the game batting .250 with one RBI in 20 plate appearances this season.
